Outdoor Furniture

Getting into the Great Outdoors has never been easier or more relaxing than with outdoor furniture and accessories! Outdoor furniture and outdoor accessories personalize your space; relaxing touches allow you to laze in your outdoor environment, knowing that you are truly ‘home’.

Finding out about Outdoor Furniture

Perfect in the garden; as a gathering and sitting area at BBQs, pool parties and get-together; or as your own little oasis in the middle of your backyard, outdoor furniture is social, sophisticated and multi-functional. Available in aluminum, wrought iron, the highest quality teak, bamboo and other woods, you can find outdoor furniture to complete any outdoor living space.

The range of outdoor accessories is staggering. These are often designed to complement your outdoor furnishings. Consider solar-power or electric lights to line a pathway or any number of awnings or other shelter structures on your property. Add candleholders atop your outdoor tables. Pick up picnic accessories, chair cushions, outdoor games – no matter what type of luxuries you enjoy indoors, you can enjoy them outdoors, too, with outdoor accessories to fit every taste and style.

Outdoor Sets

In general, there are three types of outdoor sets. All three are made up of tables and chairs, although the types of chairs and size of the tables vary greatly. Patio dining sets are ideal for larger outdoor spaces, such as large patios or back porches. Bistro sets are designed for smaller spaces, such as an apartment balcony. The third type of outdoor set you will find is called a conversation set. Conversation sets often include an outdoor sofa and a few chairs accompanying a coffee table. Conversation sets tend to be larger pieces of furniture and fit most comfortably in big spaces.

Outdoor Lounge Chairs

Outdoor lounge chairs are typically fashioned from metal – often wrought iron – although synthetic materials are on the rise and offer the sophistication of metal and iron at a reduced cost. Outdoor lounge chairs are also available in hardwood and teak.

Outdoor Benches

Outdoor benches offer seating for 2 or more, depending on the style. Available with and without backs, outdoor benches are designed to accent and blend, and are the perfect accompaniment to furniture already decorating the space. Some people choose not to use benches for seating at all, but instead place an outdoor bench in the garden as a showpiece and setting for their prized plants.

Outdoor benches are available in a variety of materials including concrete, wrought iron, teak and other metals and woods.

Some benches offer the added benefit of extra storage. These benches are usually all-weather safe, and come in neutral-colored plastics designed to camouflage into the background. These benches are great for the garden and pool area, as they provide extra seating and a lovely place to store your stuff.

Final Considerations for Outdoor Furniture

When shopping for your outdoor furniture, think about the space you will be filling and the people who will be enjoying it. Also consider the weather conditions where you live. Outdoor furnishings should fit comfortably into the space, so if you are in the market for something to go on a patio or balcony, be sure to measure the area you want to fill. Is this furniture for BBQs and pool parties, or quiet coffee conversations with intimate friends? Do you experience long, harsh winters where you live, or are conditions generally mild all year long? Answering these questions will give you the information you need to pick the best outdoor furniture to fit your life and your style.

Top 10 Tips For Buying Outdoor Furniture Online

Buying furniture online need not be a scary proposition. Armed with a few tips for a successful search, anyone can make an informed, comfortable decision when it comes to finding outdoor furniture. In most cases, local stores will not offer the same selection, pricing or quality that a quality outdoor furniture online retailer will, making an online purchase a smart decision. Here are ten things you should keep in mind when shopping for outdoor furniture online.

1. Look for the Warranty Statements

Any Outdoor furniture retailer or discounter worth considering will have a clear, well written and definitive statement of warranty OR clearly state there is no warranty on their products. It is recommended, however, that you strongly consider patronizing online sellers that will back their products with a warranty on manufacturing defects for a certain period of time. These statements should be easy for you to find, and make sense without having a law degree. Many online outdoor furniture websites will warranty the furniture they sell for a certain period of days after the furniture is received. Others worth considering highly will warranty their furniture for 5 years, 10 years, or longer.

2. Read Guarantee Policies and Return Policies

When considering an online purchase for smaller, less expensive items, these policies are still important, but not nearly as important as when you’re spending hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on outdoor furniture. An online furniture shop worth its weight in gold will clearly state its guarantee and return policies, and those policies will more favor the customer, and not the shop’s interests. What happens if you receive shipment and are not comfortable in your furniture or it is clearly not what you had expected? Look for a money back guarantee to help with peace of mind. Most good outdoor furniture websites will guarantee your satisfaction within the first few weeks or longer.

If you DO need to return the furniture, be sure you understand the return policies BEFORE you buy. The standard practice for online outdoor furniture companies is to require the purchaser to pay return postage and a restocking fee of anywhere from 10% to 20%. So be prepared, just in case. However, some retailers will pick-up the tab for return shipping and charge no fee. Of course, if you do your homework on a site you’re interested in (keep reading), you should be a satisfied and happy customer!

3. Take Note of Shipping Policies and Charges

Shipping outdoor furniture can be expensive. Shippers are now charging businesses by box volume and not by actual weight. Some companies will offer very low prices to snag you early on, only to surprise you with higher than expected shipping charges. Stay away from these outfits. The best online retailers will be up front with their shipping charges or even offer free shipping (while still offering good and fair pricing.)

Most outdoor furniture sellers will offer one standard shipping service through a major national carrier. Don’t fret if you find this to be the case with your chosen retailer. Most customers will receive their shipment within 10-14 business days depending on the online seller, although sooner is becoming more common. If one shipping method is offered and you need your furniture sooner, don’t hesitate to email or call the online store (they’ll have their contact information clearly posted if they’re reputable (see below)) and ask for a quote on faster delivery. Be warned, though. Expedited shipping service can be very expensive.

4. Look for Quality Pictures and Thorough, Descriptive and Grammatically Correct Descriptions.

When you read the product descriptions and look at the pictures, do you get the impression that the online business understands what they’re selling? Is it clear that the business has taken time to present it’s products in the best way possible to its potential customers? You as the customer should have a clear idea of what the outdoor furniture product is, how it looks, and how it may look in your home setting. A business that makes it difficult for you to view and understand the products may not be worth your time. This could be an indication of potential future customer service snags.

5. Read Customer Testimonials

Probably the best way to gage your potential future relationship with an outdoor furniture business, customer testimonials are your window into business practices and product quality. Look for happy customers satisfied with their outdoor furniture purchases. Even more, however, look for those testimonials that may mention a hitch or snag in the purchase process and how that customer is now satisfied with their purchase - perhaps even to the point of recommending that business to their friends and family. This kind of testimonial should carry almost more weight than a whole string of gushing customer comments.

6. Be Sure the Outdoor Furniture Website is Easy to Contact With Questions.

Does the “contact us” link display more than a box for you to enter your email address and question? It should. Look for a physical address and a phone number (preferably a toll free number) when browsing the outdoor furniture website. This information should be easy to find and up to date. You’ll want to spend your money at a business that is unafraid to list its physical address and a customer service phone number. When making a purchase of this size, dealing with an anonymous online seller is tantamount to gambling. Don’t do it.

7. Watch for the “Padlock” When Checking Out.

Outdoor furniture websites worth your time have invested in a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) certificate and will use credit card processing by reputable, reliable companies (Paypal, Google and http://Authorize.net for example). When entering the checkout process from the shopping cart, look at the beginning of the site address. If it begins with “https://” and you see a padlock in either the address bar or another portion of the browser, your information is being encrypted as it is sent, and is secure. If you don’t see this happen, think twice about sending your information.

8. Look for a Site Pleasing to the Eye.

If a site is put together well, it is worth your browsing time. In all actuality, if it looks good to you, you’ll stick around even if you don’t remember this rule! A business that wants your business will make it easy for you to find what you want and set you at ease with the shopping experience. Outdoor furniture websites come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from the “mom and pop” small, simple website to the slick, ultra refined furniture clearinghouse. Shop where you are comfortable!

9. Expect Your Email/Phone Questions Answered Quickly and Courteously.

How much does it appear an online retailer wants your business? If they do, they will respond to your questions and requests in a timely fashion. Emails sent to an online outdoor furniture website should be responded to the same business day with either an answer or an acknowledgment that your email has been received and will be replied to shortly. Further, phone calls should be answered promptly or, if a message is left, the voice message is responded to in a timely fashion. You as the customer should always feel that you are the most important person to a retailer, be they around the corner or half way around the world online. The online business that treats its customers well is the business you want to highly consider.

10. Check a Website’s Track Record and Longevity in Business

Although a newer business doesn’t necessarily mean it is less reliable or less trustworthy, finding an online outdoor furniture retailer that has a longer track record can give you more peace of mind when spending large amounts of money on furniture.

There are a few ways you can determine the length of a website’s time in business. Many sites will have a copyright statement in the footer. This is a good place to begin. Another hint to a website’s vintage is to look at the number of customer testimonials or customer comments. Sometimes comments will be date stamped, giving a clue to how long ago purchases were made. You can also look at the “About Us” area of the website for hints to how long a website has been in business. You may find that the website you’re browsing is fairly new, but the company behind it has been around for years and years.

Keeping these things in mind when shopping for outdoor furniture should result in a very satisfying experience for you. Shopping online today has become as ubiquitous as running out to the mall to shop. Armed with the right knowledge and the right questions, you will be happy with the outcome.

Finding The Right Patio Furniture Is Not Hard To Do

By David Fishman

You need to think of your patio as an extension of your house, so when choosing furniture or decorating the patio you need to make feel like you are in your house and make sure the patio mimics the other rooms of your home. After your patio or deck is complete bring your outdoor space to life by finding elegant designs of iron patio furniture, it is not only beautiful but weather resistant. When you place patio furniture outside it makes your outdoor are more enjoyable and will make your summers more enjoyable.

When looking at patio furniture you need to look at the different designs and types before making a decision on purchasing, you need to know the differences between wicker, teak, plastic or iron furniture. There is something dramatic and romantic about it that makes wicker quite unique.

Many prefer the look of natural wood to aluminum or plastic, and there is nothing more beautiful than the natural look of teak patio furniture. Choosing the correct design or style for you home depends on many different factors, if you have a pool you will need to get the style that matches the pool design, if you have a deck you will need to find a style that compliments the deck.

In contrast to wrought iron sets, cast aluminum patio furniture won’t rust. When your furniture is aluminum this is as easy as one two three. Cast aluminum is the most popular choice because it is lightweight and sturdy. Your cast aluminum patio furniture needs to be top of the line.

Today’s the technology is so advanced that manufacturers are able to make resin and plastic patio furniture that mimic painted wood furniture, the detail is so close that at first look you cannot tell the difference. One of the most resistant materials for patio furniture is heavy plastic resin. If you are looking for furniture that can withstand the weather and climate changes one of the best types of furniture is plastic and corrosion treated metal.

After you purchased your patio furniture set many people decided to purchase cushions that compliment the set, this is a wise idea since it will make sitting all the more comfortable. When looking for patio furniture cushions they are not all created equal, you need to test the softness; weather resistance and you need to make sure that they match your set. Many people like the cushions that have that plump look and the feel of sinking into the cushions. The next thing that you want to look at when you are shopping patio furniture cushions is the type of foam used in them.

Another type of garden furniture that is more common is rattan or wicker. Depending where you live there are certain type of furniture that work better in different climates, for example rattan furniture works better in dry climates, while cedar or teak will work in any type of climate.

Many stores offer patio sets that are complete; they come with an umbrella the base and all accessories. If you get an umbrella make sure you get a base for a firmer footing.

Grandma’s Yard - My Own Little Piece of Paradise

By Denisa Faustner

One of the treasures of my childhood memories is my Grandma and her special home. I can never forget my Grandma’s yard and all of her outdoor lawn and garden furniture as long as I live. I have so many special memories of her and her love for outdoor living. One in particular is going to stay with her in the summer and sitting with her on the outdoor furniture and her patio furniture. One special place was sitting in the wooden porch swing with her on the patio under the garden arbor covered with grape vine. I can still remember how particular she was about her outdoor lawn and garden furniture and her patio furniture being in just the right place in the yard and around the gardens. She had every kind of lawn and garden furniture and patio furniture that you can imagine in her front and back yards; wooden garden benches, tables, porch swings, garden arbors, adirondack chairs, just to name a few.

Grandma’s back yard was BIG and she loved flowers and plants of every kind. The wooden bench had to be just right under the apple tree. The adirondack chairs were under the pear tree with a wooden table between them. She even had a porch swing on top of her cellar.

She loved garden arbors. Her garden arbors were covered in some kind of vine or greenery growing. Grandma’s yard was like something that you would see in an outdoor living magazine and to a kid it was like a fairy tale place. It was my special fairy tale place. I wasn’t aware of how special all of her outdoor lawn and garden furniture was until I was grown and Grandma was in Heaven.

Now with a home of my own I too love the outdoor living. I love all the wooden benches, the garden arbors, porch swings, adirondack chairs and have them in my home and garden just like Grandma. They all are special to me because they remind me of my her. Anytime that I am able to sit outside under the garden arbor in the wooden porch swing, in the lawn furniture out around the bird bath or the adirondack chairs up on the deck I cherish that time. It’s a reminder that now I am building memories of my own with my own family just like my Grandma did with me.
